The Asido Foundation has officially opened applications for the 6th Edition of the Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition (JAME). This annual contest promotes mental health awareness among students and encourages young Nigerians to speak up about emotional wellbeing in today’s fast-changing world.

About the JAME Competition
The competition was created in memory of Jemila Abubakar, a passionate mental health advocate and former project officer at the Asido Foundation. Every year, the foundation invites undergraduates to write essays that promote wellbeing, resilience, and youth empowerment.
Over the years, JAME has grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected mental-health-focused competitions, drawing entries from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

Prizes for 2026 Winners
The top three students will receive:
1st Prize — ₦200,000
2nd Prize — ₦150,000
3rd Prize — ₦100,000
Additionally, the top 15 finalists will receive certificates and be inducted as JAME 2026 Fellows, gaining access to mentorship and training through the Asido Foundation.
Winners will be announced in January 2026 during the foundation’s Interactive Monthly Community Engagement Series (IMCE).
